Event Preview: MidPoint Music Festival

One of the best times of the year, MidPoint Music Festival is upon us! Cincinnati's three-day indie festival, MPMF greets us this year on Fri-Sat-Sun!

This is one of the most exciting events in the city for indie rock fans (and us). MPMF has a tendency to expose us to artists that are just about to get major nationwide publicity. Each year the headliners get better and better. This year is no exception with bands such as Iron & Wine, tUnE-yArDs, Sylvan Esso and Heartless Bastards

Three-day, single day and VIP passes are still available via Cincyticket.

Have you created your own MPMF schedule? Go do that NOW!

This year is the debut of the MidPoint Indie Craft Village! A new, non-ticketed area on Washington Park’s south end, will feature a variety of food, craft beer sellers and the exhibition and sale of handmade art and crafts from regional artists. Kicking off the festival on Friday in the MidPoint Indie Craft Village is Jr. Jr. (fka Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.)! Read more about that HERE

CincyMusic.com is once again presenting the stage at The Drinkery! We have two pre-MidPoint events planned there with our local music community in mind. On Saturday at 12:30pm we are having a FREE panel to discuss how musicians can go about getting their music on the radio! No reservation is required but go ahead and RSVP to the event HERE!  On Sunday CincyMusic.com is offering the opportunity for local bands to have professional photos taken, for free! We will be set up at The Drinkery between noon and 2pm. A reservation is required—Sign up HERE to reserve your slot.

We've also got you covered with a whole bunch of interviews and previews that we have been posting over the past few months. See you there!

Aussie Duo Big Scary Playing MPMF

Big Scary is an Australian musical duo formed in Melbourne in 2006, by Tom Lansek, and Joanna Syme. The story of Big Scary began in Melbourne, Australia, where duo Tom Iansek and Jo Syme, armed with just acoustic guitars and egg shakers, started playing songs together in the living room of...

K. Flay Independently Progressive

Hip-Hop is meant to be progressive. Like every other genre, it can stagnate, it can lose its edge, it can stutter. Sometimes it crawls to a standstill. But like all genres, independent artists working within (or, without) that framework will always be there, have something to say, and prove...

Grandchildren are Orchestral Pop with Tight Beats

Known for their cinematic orchestrations blending folk, pop and electronic music, Grandchildren have been steadily making a name for themselves since songwriter Aleks Martray founded the group in Philadelphia in 2008. Since then the band has evolved into a dynamic ensemble of musicians, lauded by...

Wild Ones Turn Up the Heat

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, Wild Ones have crafted two recent releases that are among the best pop albums I’ve heard in the past few years. Between the two, the band - led by vocalist Danielle Sullivan - has toured relentlessly, making waves (and new fans) along the way.  Their...

Christian Moerlein Brewing Co., 7:15 PM The Pale Horse arrived just in time. The debut LP by Lexington, KY quartet Ancient Warfare is an autumnal wonder, filled with crisp comfort and haunted harmonies. If there’s any single vibe they’ve managed to channel, it’s the spooked...

MPMF Preview: The Besnard Lakes

The Besnard Lakes seem incapable of thinking small. The Quebecois outfit’s four albums to date are elaborate, ornate affairs that exist in their own strange world between dream pop and post-rock. It’s as if mid-90’s Mercury Rev took a sharp right turn into shoegaze territory....

MPMF Preview: Ride

Ride should’ve filled stadiums. They certainly had the sound to pull it off. The quartet blasted out of the same Oxford, UK music scene as Radiohead on the strength of banshee walls of guitar noise and the endorsement of The Jesus and Mary Chain. Their near-perfect debut LP, Nowhere, predated...

Add Bully to Your MPMF Schedule

Bully is a band that has quickly developed a reputation for its ferocious live shows. It's a curious name for a Nashville quartet that is transforming familiar '90s alt-rock into smart, sharp-edged millennial indie rock, but "bully" is certainly an apt description for the band's churning guitars,...
