Sylvan Esso is an addicting indie pop duo. Comprised of singer/songwriter Amelia Meath (of the Appalachian indie folk trio Mountain Man) and producer Nick Sanborn (who performs under the moniker Made of Oak and plays bass with psych-rockers Megafaun), the pair hail from Durham, North Carolina.
Although they have only been performing together since 2013 and only one album out (released in May of 2014), they have gained some heavy national attention. Oh, and the hearts of many – have you seen Meath dance - it’s THE best! Their song, "Hey Mami" was named Paste Magazines #1 song of 2014.
The two intentionally attempt to use the voice as an instrument so that it becomes difficult to separate the music from the lyrics. The messages in the songs also have a wide span from dealing with being cat called to heart breaking love stories. According to an interview from The Washington Post - Meath says, "These songs were meant very specifically to be catchy, to appeal to a wide audience...".
I can not wait to see Sylvan Esso live at MidPoint Music Festival! They play Saturday, September 26th at Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. at 10:45p.
