NKY Hates Heroin Benefit at Southgate House Revival

Local musicians Kevin Schmidt and Jeff Albers (from local, touring-bands Ampline and Knife The Symphony, respectively) have teamed up with independent record label Phratry Records / owner Jerry Dirr to organize a benefit concert to raise funds for NKY Hates Heroin.

The event, which takes place Saturday, May 7 at the Southgate House Revival in Newport, KY, features nearly twenty local bands/musicians on three stages of music.  The cost of the event is $8. 100% of admission, and money raised from raffles by local artists and sponsors throughout the night, will go directly to NKY Hates Heroin. Doors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 7pm. It is open to all ages. Sponsor information to be announced.

NKYHatesHeroin.com is a non-profit group started by the family of Nicholas Specht who died of an accidental overdose in August, 2013. The group was formed to help saturate the community with information that they unfortunately did not have when struggling through Nicholas' addiction and recovery, as well as provide support and resources to those directly affected by addiction.

Once the organizers announced their intentions with the event, they've been overwhelmed by positive responses from musicians wanting to participate, as this seems to be an issue in which so many of them (like so many people in the tri-state, in general) have been directly impacted, both personally and professionally.

Those performing include:  Common Center, Black Signal (featuring Jess Lamb), The Ready Stance (members of Ass Ponys), Kid Stardust, Ryan Malott (of 500 Miles To Memphis), The Angel Shale, Vacation, A.M. Nice, SS-20, RIVE, Husk & Skull, Ampline, Knife the Symphony, The Newport Secret Six, Wonky Tonk, Kate Wakefield, Scot Torres (of State Song), Public Works (Jughead from SS-20 acoustic), and JIMS (Jim Snowden of Sweet Ray Laurel and Smoke Signals). Many of the artists participating include Cincinnati Entertainment Award winners, and bands who remain loyal and active participants in the local music community while spending a lot of time touring throughout the U.S.

NKYHatesHeroin.com partners with the local community by printing and distributing educational and resource materials, as well as by supporting many local organizations including Transitions, Inc., Healthy Newborn House, Droege House, Brighton Recovery Center for Women and others.

The Southgate House Revival is located at 111 East Sixth Street in Newport, KY.  Tickets for the event are available in advance at the Southgate House Revival Lounge or online HERE. Tickets will also be available at the door.
