The Heights Music Festival Returns This Weekend

The Heights Music Festival will be held this Friday and Saturday in the Clifton Heights neighborhood. The festival is known for its wide scope of genres from folk to hip-hop. The Heights Music Festival has grown to an audience of over 20,000 over the past few years, and has hosted notable artists including Walk The Moon, Peter Adams, Eclipse Movement, The Cliftones, and many more.

This year, we will see a lot of focus on new local talent including The Freebies, Young Colt, Junya Be & Wazali, Little Lights, and Moonbeau.

The festival takes place over two days and is spread across four venues. Tickets can be purchased via the fine folks at CincyTicket, or at the door. We’ve even put together a complete schedule page that you can use as you peruse the venues.

Below are just a few of the bands that we are particularly excited about, but with four stages everyone will be able to find their own new favorites.

Young Colt
We’ve been hearing a lot of Young Colt over the past year. In late 2012, the duo released their album “Fightin’”, and it has a folk-y feel but overall is hard to put in just one box.

What: twangy-yet-soulful indie rock
When: Friday 10p-11p
Where: Rohs Street Cafe

Gold Shoes
These guys are another band that straddles two genres. Half hip-hop, and half funky beats, the real magic comes out when you see their live act.

What: hip-hop/jazz/rock fusion with great stage presence
When: Friday 12:15a-1:15a
Where: Christy’s Biergarten

Jordon Schneider & Guests
Jordon “Frankly Speaking” Schneider writes heartfelt songs and sounds close to the likes of Jack’s Mannequin or John Mayer. This set will put you in a good mood for the rest of the night.

What: light singer/songwriter pop rock
When: Saturday 9p-10p
Where: Christy’s Biergarten

Little Lights
This experimental trio is just getting started in the Cincinnati music scene, and is garnering attention for their smooth, almost atmospheric style. Expect to see much more from Little Lights as they continue to grow.

What: soft vocals on a silky canvas of dreampop
When: Saturday 11p-12a
Where: Rohs Street Cafe
