REVIEW: GWAR at Bogart's

Last night aliens from another planet invaded Bogart's. GWAR is more than just a band, they are an Art Collective from Richmond Virginia that has been playing amazing heavy metal music and putting on the craziest stage show in show business since the '80s. All of this obscenity and violence is a good way to keep out normal folk but once you're into the club there is so much fun to be had.

Bogart's loves GWAR so much that there is a giant portrait of the bassist, Beefcake the Mighty mounted on the wall next to Tom Petty and Prince. GWAR comes around Cincinnati one time a year and it's always packed. This year we have a new member Grodius Maximus. The fresh blood in the band seemed to be injecting fresh energy into the show as Grodius was running around the stage into the crowd. Some notable moments from the show were a giant spider monster, the giant troll finale, and the mutilation of Taylor Swift.

Things got political when Benjamin Netanyahu came on stage with a Palestinian child during the song “Hail Genocide”, he was beheaded and quickly disposed of. GWAR has always been very political, last year they killed Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un on stage. Their message does not seem to lean left or right, it's more of an equal hatred of anyone in power.

Last night's show had great vibes, it was one of the best shows you'll see at Bogart's all year. The fans were really happy, nobody got hurt, and lots of good vibes were had. I would highly recommend Cincinnati Music fans attend the GWAR shows in the future. They always come around the fall when the spooky season starts. Thanks as always to GWAR for invading our city, and Bogart's for being one of the best music venues in Ohio.
