Atmospheric indie outfit Ruby Vileos has released a gorgeous new video for their latest single, “I’m Not Cold.” Following last year’s release of the stunning Nothing Between Us, the band continues to pull from material found on the record - and for good reason.
In my initial review of the album (and sorry for quoting myself, truly), I said, “Nothing Between Us operates in a sort of sonic liminal space, I think. It’s airy and dense at the same time, and has obvious sonic callbacks to the late 90’s and early 00’s. There are elements of post-grunge, Indie and Americana, with vocals that sit alongside modern comparisons to Cincinnati’s rambunctious Lung, and the breathy delivery of singers like Tori Amos. Atmospherically, it’s an album adjacent to later releases from The National, and has hints, for me, of what Chris Walla accomplished with Death Cab for Cutie’s Transatlanticism.” And I stand by this assessment.
The lovely thing about music is that it continues to evolve as you listen to it, it’s never static. The music might stay the same, sure, but we do not. And as I’ve listened to the album after its release, it continues to bloom and blossom in some really lovely and fulfilling ways.
If you want to check out the band live, you’re in luck. You can catch them at Bircus Brewing this Saturday, February 24 as part of the Cabin Fever Music + Arts Festival, which looks like it’s going to be a hell of a Saturday in Ludlow, KY. Tickets are still available, but may not be come the weekend.
Check out the video below, and if you dig it and missed it the first time around, you can stream and purchase the album here.
