Sleepy Drums Return with New Album, Show to Celebrate!

Cincinnati mainstay and Lo Fi City recording artists Sleepy Drums have announced their return with a new album, and a show at The Southgate House Revival to celebrate.

On Saturday, May 13, Sleepy Drums will take to the stage along with A.M. Nice and National Barks to mark the release of The Future of Rad Times, an album 5 years in the making.

Even though recording kicked off in 2018, it was sporadic. Then, the pandemic erupted, pausing plans to continue recording. While everyone did their best to adjust to life at home - or, at least, more at home - the band pivoted from in-person recording and started working on tracks for the album digitally, trading pieces, compositions, and various tracks back and forth to build the rest of the record. J. Stout, founding member and owner/operator of Lo Fi City, says of the album, “This is hands down our finest recording and the best document of our songs and sound.”

“These songs were completed during the thick of the pandemic and a lot of the lyrics reflect the alienation, loneliness and frustration that many of us felt at the time,” Stout explains. “So the title is less of a projection as it is a toast - here’s to the future of rad times! It’s been a rough few years, but we made it through. Though it can be difficult to be positive at times, let’s hope for rad times when we can.” Hear, hear.

The Future of Rad Times will be released via Lo Fi City on May 13th, with a limited edition cassette available at the release show with both the digital and cassette versions on Bandcamp. The release show itself is happening in the Revival Room at The Southgate House Revival in Newport, KY. Check out all the details below, and pick up your tickets ahead of time here. Keep an eye out for our album review ahead of the show.
