Adam Torres is a singer-songwriter who grew up right down the street in West Chester, OH, moved to Athens, OH for college and eventually settled in Austin, TX. Torres’ voice has the ability to take you on a journey. A delicate falsetto that ebbs and flows through his storytelling.
In 2006, he self-released his first solo album at the age of 20, Nostra Nova, an album that developed a cult-classic status in the decade since, and a slightly greater visibility upon its reissue via Misra Records in 2015. While word slowly spread of this songwriter you’d never heard of, Torres himself was mostly absent in those ensuing ten years before returning with Pearls to Swine, his first full-fledged release since Nostra Nova.
Per Bob Boilen of NPR Music, “Adam Torres' voice makes Pearls To Swine a constant listen for me. It's high and lonesome, but more frail than the voices of the bluegrass pioneers who defined that sound, like Ralph Stanley. Besides, Torres isn't a country singer or a folksinger so much as an atmospheric storyteller.”
Catch Adam Torres at MidPoint Music Festival on Saturday, September 23rd on the Central Parkway YMCA Stage (Taft Theatre) at 6:15.
