Lera Lynn at SGHR with Wilder

Lera Lynn is back to Cincinnati after playing Buckle Up Music Festival this past summer! Local band, Wilder will be opening the show. A perfect pairing for an unforgettable night.

A favorite of Sheryl Crow, Lera has earned praise for her new album The Avenues (out now) from the Wall Street Journal ("dusky [and] enveloping"), USA Today ("smoky"), American Songwriter ("dark and dreamy," 4 stars), Billboard (615 Spotlight) and more.

Rolling Stone Country named her a must-see act at this year's Americana Music Fest, praising her, "shimmering, swooning folk music that's more about texture than twang," and Country Weekly raved, "If we were going to put money on who might have a big breakout in the next few months, it would be Lera Lynn."

We sat down with the lovely Lera Lynn prior to the show to talk songwriting, inspiration and a new album!

Can you give us some background on how you started to play music?
I started singing in church when I was a small child. My mother always sang and played a little guitar and piano. Once we moved to Atlanta, I started playing violin in the school orchestra but when we moved to another county a year later, there was no orchestra program. So, I picked up guitar and started to learn songs by ear. Most of the songs I was learning were by singer/songwriters like Joni Mitchell. From the beginning it seemed to me that all singers wrote their own songs so that's what I set out to do...

What and where do you draw your inspiration from?
Everything. All of the things I've experienced in life have influenced my writing.

What can we expect from a live Lera Lynn show?
On this leg of the tour, I will be performing with producer and multi instrumentalist, Joshua Grange (Sheryl Crow, K.D. Lang, Beck). We will play some songs from earlier albums and songs from the new album, The Avenues. We always look forward to performing together although it is not always possible. It is a special treat for me to share the stage with such a talented artist and producer of The Avenues.

What is next for Lera Lynn?
Trucking along like the rest of us. Over the next few months, I will be touring to support The Avenues. When I'm not on the road, I will be writing. I'm looking forward to recording a new album in 2015.
