You know the saying - Fifth time’s a charm. That’s it, right? For The Ridges, though, we think it’s safe to say that the first time actually was. After playing with Kishi Bashi - a violin virtuoso with indie rock leanings who happens to be a favorite of the CincyMusic.com staff, who might be a bit excited to have him back in town - a handful of times, The Ridges are not shy about their love of playing with a musician they respect and appreciate so much. Starting with an opening spot in Nashville this past July that then turned into a 3 day run just last weekend, this budding relationship will culminate in an opening spot here in Cincinnati, on Thursday August 28th. The Ridges will no doubt let their excitement shine through to what we’d imagine will be a rapt, excited home-away-from-hometown crowd, eager to be entertained by both the sultry, sullen, melodic stylings of the The Ridges themselves, as well as the painterly soundscapes Kishi Bashi engineers for each outing. Band leader Victor Ragaitis says of their previous shows with Kishi Bashi: “Each one has been a completely new, amazing, and unforgettable experience — and they've put on some of the best shows we've ever seen every single time. We couldn't possibly be happier to share the stage once again with one of our absolute favorite musicians.”
The quaint yet spacious room at the 20th Century Theatre will play host to these two bands, and will be a chance for The Ridges, whose mix of folk-inspired meditations on love and loss, to enjoy the attention and likely affection of an all-new crowd.
We’re excited to see what The Ridges bring to Cincinnati this time around, and can only imagine that the time already spent with Kishi Bashi will make it’s presence felt from the first note - the excitement of both the fans and the band itself should be palpable.
