Powerful Emo with Free Throw

On July 25th, at Rohs Street Café, 5 bands are set to take the stage for what promises to be a supremely fun night of some of the best post-rock, emo, rock, and pop-punk to hit the town in quite some time.

Touring with Prawn, Tennessee’s powerful emo foursome Free Throw will bring the fun and energy of their live show to the Queen City. Relative newcomers they might be, but it’s obvious that they’re ready to make a name for themselves as a band first, and, as excited fans of the bands they’re playing with second. I’m excited to see what they bring to the show, and knowing they’re just getting started, where they go from here! Thanks to Larry for taking the time to answer my questions.

Can you give us a little background on the band? Where are you from and when did you start?
FT: We have been a band for about two years now. We all live in surrounding cities of Nashville and have all been in bands together before. One day Cory and myself were hanging out and were talking about how awesome it would be to be in a band that sounded like grown ups and it snowballed from there haha.

Is anyone in the band currently involved in any other projects? Were any of you involved in any before this?
Our drummer Zachary has a solo project under his name (Zachary  Hall) that is amazing and same for our vocalist Cory his project is called black eye child. Most of the dudes played in a pop punk band called Prove Them Wrong.  Zach and I were in a post hardcore band called Captain and Jack.

What’s been the best tour or show experience you’ve had so far?
I would have to say the best show was on our Tiny Moving Parts tour. We were lucky enough to get to play a sold out show with them and The Front Bottoms. We all are huge fans of them and got to watch the set side stage and just go nuts. Those dudes put one hell of a show on!

Do you have any records or EP’s out? Can you talk a bit about recording and releasing them? Do you have any releases coming up?
We released our self titled ep in October of 2012. We just had a few days to demo out a few songs we had and ended up liking them so much we decided to release them! It was crazy how fast everything worked out! It is still free on our bandcamp! (Freethrowemo.bandcamp.com

Our second EP, Lavender Town we had a little more time in the studio so we were able to try a few new things out. My roommate Jordan Casey has a studio he runs out of his room and we were able to track it there over a span of a week and a half. We recently signed to Count Your Lucky Stars and they pressed Lavender Town on vinyl! You can listen to the ep at countyourluckystars.bandcamp.com

We recorded our first full length record in January in 6 days. We were super pressed for time and had such a short window to get everything done. But we couldn't have been happier how it turned out. We tracked with my roommate once again and it was nice to just have the whole band just stay at our house for 6 days and knock everything out. The record should be coming out later this summer/early fall on Count Your Lucky Stars Records.

After this show or tour, what are your plans for the rest of the summer?
We have a few plans up our sleeve we really can't talk to much about. But they will be announced soon! We plan to stay busy this year so it is going to be a blast being on the road for quite some time!

Anything else you’d like to add or mention?
You can download both our eps at Freethrowemo.bandcamp.com and you can buy a copy of our 7" at Count Your Lucky Stars online store! Feel free to follow us on twitter/Instagram @freethrowemo. Thanks again for taking the time to interview us! Cannot wait to hang out later this month!
