Beat Club is a Los Angeles based band consisting of Jeff Kite (keyboards/vocals), Jon Pancoast (bass), and Anthony Polcino (guitars/vocals). The music draws from an eclectic palette of influences ranging from hip-hop to punk rock to world-dance. Armed with an arsenal of songs often driven by searing, rhythmic guitars, funky Afrobeat bass lines and vintage synthesizers, layered over a booming blend of acoustic and electronic beats, Beat Club has become a fresh and unmistakeable musical collective. Come get to know Beat Club at Bunbury Music Festival!
How did you get started as musicians?
By simply picking up our instruments early on and playing with friends in bands, playing along to whatever our favorite records were at the time, or wherever and whenever you could.
Who's your biggest musical influence? (past & present)
Tough to pick one, as we like almost anything and everything. You can get an idea of both past and present tastes if you check out this playlist on Spotify:
What can people expect at a live Beat Club show?
Rock, funk, and punk. Wouldn't want to spoil the rest for anyone who wants to see for themselves.
Are you working on your next project? When do you expect that to be released?
We're always working on new music and trying to better the live set. There's a chance of an EP coming out before the end of this year, but it may be pushed until 2014. We'll have to wait and see!
What's been you biggest moment so far? The time when you felt like this is why I do this?
The longer you do it (live as a musician) the more challenging it is to recognize those types of moments. So far in Beat Club, the most exciting thing is the fact that we said we were going to start a band nearly two years ago, and here we are- still going and growing.
What advice do you have for a new artist just starting out?
To understand that before you identify yourself as an artist, no matter how tiresome it gets, you'll have to do anything and everything to ensure you're always getting better and expect nothing in return.
