Divine Fits are a “supergroup” composed of Britt Daniel (Spoon), Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade / Handsome Furs), Sam Brown (New Bomb Turks) and multi-instrumentalist Alex Fischel. Debuting at SXSW (2012), the group did a little touring at the end of 2012 in small venues and it built up to large clubs. This summer they are set to play Bonnaroo, Coachella among other festivals...
Divine Fits have a stop tonight at The Taft Theater on their tour supporting the debut album, A Thing Called Divine Fits.
I recently sat down with Sam Brown and chatted about tomatoes, Craigslist and dive bars.
CincyMusic.com: Tell me a bit how this Supergroup formed
Sam Brown: Craigslist
CM: How does Divine Fits work around the schedule of your other commitments? Has this project become more of a priority as popularity has grown?
SB: At the moment everything is working around Divine Fits. We are finished with the bulk of touring for the album. These Midwest dates are a chance to play the places we missed last year. After this run most of our remaining 2013 shows are festivals so everyone will have time in between to work on other projects.
CM: If you could grab a 5th member from any other group, who would it be? Or is there anyone you have not worked with that you would like to (musician, producer etc…)
SB: Alex is all the 5th member we need
CM: Festivals, concert halls, or dives? Which are your favorite to play?
CM: Tell us about your writing process. Do you start with music or lyrics? How do you divide who does what?
SB: It's mostly magic. Usually I play drums.
CM: Who is your guilty pleasure?
SB: I'll never tell
CM: Any other projects in the works for you go-getters?
SB: Gearing up to grow some tomatoes
CM: Any advice for a musician just getting started?
SB: Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars
