Maria Keck is a classically trained flutist turned songwriter and folk-pop artist from Cincinnati, Ohio. In the three years since she started performing her original music, she has garnered the title of Cincinnati’s “flute looper”, using a loop station to layer flute, vocals, keyboard, and ukulele under her folk-influenced lyrics.
Today, Maria released her first studio album: The Gardener & Me. The album is a cohesive collection of songs inspired by her spiritual and child-like connection to nature through the lens of human emotion. Her songs are constructed based on her live-looping performance, but produced using a blend of acoustic and electronic instruments. Influenced musically by a range of artists from Sylvan Esso to Tune-Yards to Paul Simon, you will hear understated backbeats and ambient synths seamlessly blended with organic piano, ukulele, and flute, all combined with lyrics that draw on the folky nature of songwriters such as (Leslie) Feist, Florence Welch, and Neko Case. All songs on the album were written and performed by Maria, and produced with the help of Matthew Heath at Four Suns Audio in Cincinnati, OH. Matthew is also the mastermind behind the recording, mixing, and mastering of this album.
