We had the chance to talk with Kyla prior to the Live tomorrow!

How did you get into the Cincinnati Music Scene?
I’ve been performing in bars around Cincinnati since I was about 15, so I guess I’ve just kind of been doing it for so long I don’t really remember! I’ve been doing this professionally for four years now, and I basically just made my voice so loud (literally and metaphorically) that I couldn’t be ignored. Performing is everything to me, so I can’t imagine doing anything else at this point.

What can fans expect from a Live performance?
I’m a solo artist, and a singer/songwriter, so everything I will be performing will be coming straight from my heart. All my songs come from something I’ve personally experienced, so it’s a lot of heart and soul. A lot of my songs are about pain, but I think they help other people to get through the things they are going through.

How have the past 5ish months been musically?
Difficult, to be completely honest. I’ve been in a stagnant place creatively which has been hard. And I’m not performing nearly as much, which has had a huge impact on me emotionally and financially. Music is my full time job, so I’ve been scrambling to make everything work. But it is working, I’m still playing where I can do so safely. I’ll be happy when I feel like this writer’s block has been broken though.

What is next for Kyla Mainous?
The hope for this year was originally to record my second full length, full band album. And then corona happened. So that’s been slow going, but it is still the top of my list of projects to do. I’ve been sitting on this group of songs for awhile now and I’m so excited to bring them to life with a band and get them out into my fans’ ears. I’m hoping to at least put out one single before the end of the year. Fingers crossed!
