Review: Forecastle Festival

With another year brings another fantastic Forecastle fest to the Ville.

This year's lineup was one of Forecastle's most musically diverse and brought in acts that everyone can enjoy.

The first thing that caught my eye was the Forecastle Foundation Art Wall, where painters were creating large canvas pieces. It was very intriguing passing by it throughout the weekend and watching the progress.

Party Cove was a delight (especially at night) with nautical art installations emerging from the trees and stage to greet marveling onlookers, paired with DJ's, dance and EDM music.

The Sea Dragon and Ferris Wheel provided a fun break from walking in the sun, and was a huge reprieve for festival goers with children for entertainment for the little ones.

For adults, the craft beer was on point, as well as, of course, the bourbon. The Forecastle Bourbon Lodge is a must stop destination. The FBL features an immersion into everything Bourbon, as well as offering an excellent culinary experience.

The grounds were bustling with music goers filtering in and out of Forecastle's impressive five stages. Just as impressive as the layout of the stages, vendors, rides and food stops were. You never feel too crowded getting from one place to the next, yet every stage had moments filled in with excited onlookers.

The headliners didn't disappoint, as The Killers had a rousing response to their tribute to Tom Petty with a country fried pop version of "American Girl," Portugal. the Man weaving in and out of songs old and new, Anderson .Paak lighting up the Mast Stage with an impressive stage show - both by performance and presentation, andThe Avett Brothers closing it out with a set that hit on the saddoes and brought it back up with upbeat performances.

Congrats on another fantastic year, Forecastle!

Forecastle Music Recommendations to Check Out:

Leikeli47

Bold and brazen, Leikeli has become one of my favorite artists in 2019, with her performance capturing hip hop, soul and afro-electro groove and encapsulating the audience with her stage show and lyrical storytelling. Check out her latest release "Acrylic."

 GRLwood

The Fall City's own GRLwood puts on one of the most riveting and visceral live sets in rock music today, with blistering, biting, yet sometimes comedic/satirical lyrical commentary and artful riffs and beats that would make Kurt Cobain blush. GRLwood is certainly one of my favorite acts to experience live. Catch them literally everywhere as they continue their 2019 tour through the summer.

The Marias

Psychedelic bedroom pop from LA. The Marias provide a neo lounge vibe mixed with jazz elements and Maria's sensually soft vocals. You will find yourself quite melting within the soundscapes of their single "Over the Moon."

Moon Taxi

With each passing year, Moon Taxi continues to age like a fine wine.

The Nashville quintet brings thoughtful lyrics and an "all their own" indie pop sound. MT has perfected their presence on the stage, curating each song into a wonderfully mesmerizing set. Check out their new song "Restless.”
