Auditions for May Festival Chorus and Youth Chorus

Cincinnati’s May Festival Chorus and May Festival Youth Chorus are seeking experienced choral singers to join the ensembles for the 2019/20 performance season. May Festival Chorus and Youth Chorus members perform throughout the year with the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras in addition to appearances at the annual two-week May Festival, the event for which Music Hall was originally built.

The 2019/20 season includes four subscription series appearances with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, including Schumann’s Paradise and the Peri and Mahler Symphony No. 3, as well as performances of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban with the Cincinnati Pops. There are no dues or tuition fees associated with membership in the May Festival Chorus or the May Festival Youth Chorus; acceptance is based on ability and commitment.

WHEN: Audition dates are July 8, August 24, and August 31, by appointment only.

WHAT: Audition requirements for the May Festival Chorus include a performance of two solo works from classical literature, one in English and one in another language. Vocalization and sight singing may also be part of the audition. An accompanist will be provided, but singers should provide scores of their chosen solos for the accompanist. Audition selections do not need to be memorized. Rehearsals for the May Festival Chorus are regularly scheduled on Tuesday evenings from 7–10 pm at Music Hall. The season runs from a September retreat through the May 2020 May Festival.
