Wild Yeast and the Missing Linck Premiere at Urban Artifact

Imagine this: a recently rediscovered cellar under a building in Over-the-Rhine that was once used for brewing; a team of brewers from one of Cincinnati’s premier craft breweries; yeast samples, and…a beer?

This really happened and fortunately for everyone, the process was documented by local filmmaker Dan Phenicie. The beer is delicious and so is the short documentary about the entire process.

Wild Yeast and the Missing Linck is a short film that documents this very process, but more importantly, it resulted in a beer, a beer that Urban Artifact is releasing to the public on June 1stabout the long process of finding the yeast, bringing it back to life, and making a beer with it. The short documentary features music from some of our local favorites Dead Man String BandXzela, and Heavy Hinges! It was directed and produced by Dan Phenicie of 779video.

This Saturday, June 1st Urban Artifact is releasing the beer that is a first in the annals of brewing history. MISSING LINCK is an Ancient Ale brewed with yeast harvested from a pre-prohibition fermenting tank in a previously sealed off 164-year-old lagering cellar of the long defunct F. & JA Linck Brewery. The beer itself is a light colored ale that permits the flavor of its ancient yeast to shine through, producing a distinct, flavorful brew with a crisp, dry finish.

In the Cincinnati Council meeting yesterday, the yeast twill be given to the city and Cincinnati will be naming June 1st as Missing Linck Day.

The celebration this year will include a ceremonial tapping at 4p in The Sanctuary, historic breweriana and antiques on display 4p – 6p, tours of the Urban Artifact campus, guided tasting lead by Mike Morgan, the premier of “Wild Yeast and the Missing Linck,” and more. Both draft and packages of Missing Linck will be for sale in The Sanctuary.
