Discount Nostalgia is a rock band from Bowling Green, Ohio. They recently released their debut album, Songs for Dogs and are out on tour to support! They have decided that Cincinnati is so nice, they are coming to see us twice. You can see them at The Southgate House Revival on Friday, November 16th and again at Northside Tavern on Friday, December 7th!
We jumped at the chance to chat up the band prior to the upcoming shows!
What can we expect at a live show?
A live show with Discount Nostalgia is going to feature some fun-having goons turned brothers through tunes. DN puts forth a 4-piece rock outfit with three singers, including an instrument switch-up. Coming armed with harmony vocals, big riffs, pop sensibilities, and even a bass solo or two, Discount Nostalgia aims to bring a Rock n Roll performance that makes music fans, musicians, and even the serendipitous bar goers enjoy their night.
Tell us how you came up with your band name…
A.J. Graber, one of Discount’s singers and guitar players, found the name at a local bookstore in his hometown of Lakewood, OH. The books featured in the section labeled “Discount Nostalgia” were old romance novels sold for 25 cents. Graber loved the way the made-up book genre sounded and kept in his back pocket of creative writing ideas. Fast forward about a year: The band’s sitting, thinking after getting their first gig that they don’t have a name. Several names were offered by all the members with little to no traction. One of those names suggested was Discount Nostalgia. After a unanimous for Discount Nostalgia, they’ve been a band adorning the name for over two years.
What is next for Discount Nostalgia?
Since releasing their debut album Songs for Dogsin March 2018, Discount Nostalgia has been playing out all over the state and region. Shows in their hometown, Bowling Green, OH, are supplemented with other in state shows in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Canton and out of state shows in Detroit, Chicago, and Newport, KY. The band’s working on booking tours, pushing their lovingly crafted debut, meeting other awesome music folks around the state and beyond, but most importantly, having a blast doing it all.
