Every month, Freshlist hosts a dance music and art focused event showcasing local and national talent. Their goal? To foster Cincinnati's electronic music scene from the ground up! This month, the Freshlist crew is treating the Queen City to something special. One of the most influential dance music record labels in the Country, Dirtybird pushes the boundaries of House and Techno and will make its Cincinnati debut this weekend. This Saturday, July 29th, Dirtybird artist, Christian Martin, will headline #Freshlist at Mecklenburg Gardens.
"This is an incredibly exciting move for me personally and Freshlist as a whole,” shares Mark Naegel also known as Bit Flip. “We have grown so much over the past two (almost three) years that we are able to put on this show DIY with all of our own production elements. We are so stoked to show Cincinnati how diverse the electronic music scene can be and bring in unique artists that cater to the underground dance music lover and newbies alike. Fusing this musical talent with some of our best visual artists is really going to put this one over the top!"
A dance music veteran in his own right, Martin began in 1995 playing full-moon parties in the deserts of California and traveling to play nightclubs in London. His travels brought him to San Francisco where his brother, Claude VonStroke, Worthy and himself founded the Dirtybird BBQ with the goal to change the landscape of house music. Soon after, Martin took a leap and purchased a sound system on his personal credit card. This move “set the standard for a new era of die-hard dedicated DIY producers, all with productions based on heavy bass-lines, smiling faces and dance floor delights.” A perfect match-up for Cincinnati’s DIYcrew, Freshlist.
Since Dirtybird’s inception, it has grown into a massive label and festival along with Martin stacking up countless releases and shows. Whether he’s slanging beats on Holy Ship or rocking it solo at a local show, Martin gets the dance floor pulsating with his fusion of House and hard hitting breakbeats. With the launch of his latest project Trippy Ass Technologies, Martin focuses on production specifically aimed at large scale sound systems to take you on a journey.
Don’t miss your chance to get a sample of the BBQ with the first appearance of Dirtybird’s Christian Martin in Cincinnati this Saturday!
