Following the 2015 release of his latest album Method to My Madness, Tommy Castro and The Painkillers are out on their U.S. tour with opener Mike Zito and are heading to Southgate House Revival on Tuesday May 8th.
One of the hottest blues, R&B, and rock guitarists/singers, Castro has been recording since the mid-1990s after a 1980s stint with the Warner Bros. Records’ band The Dynatones. Since the 90s, Castro has headed up several bands (formerly under Blind Pig Records) and signed on with Chicago’s Alligator Records in 2009.
In 2010, Castro was awarded multiple Blues Music Awards for Male Artist of the Year, Contemporary Blues Album of the Year, B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, and Band of the Year. Following the awards, Castro stripped down his band to only four members, known as The Painkillers. In 2013, the group released the album The Devil You Know and received very positive reviews from blues and other music critics. When his 2015 album Method to My Madness was released, it hit a whopping #4 on the Billboard Blues Albums Chart. Peak songs such as “Lose Lose,” “Stormy Monday,” and “Ride” bring a unique, soulful vocal style to Castro’s work with The Painkillers.
Between Mike Zito and Tommy Castro, they boast a total eight Blues Music Award Wins. DownBeat magazine gives Tommy Castro’s current album Method To My Madness (Alligator) 4 stars and raves "The Californian's latest album represents a high-water mark in his career.” Jazz Times proclaims about Mike Zito "His music flows into the veins and moves the body in ways that can only be described as free and wild." They will collaborate on several favorite songs for this premiere event at SGHR, promising a high-entertainment and high-energy show.
