The Memorial Hall Society is launching the new Longworth-Anderson Series to be presented at the fully-renovated Memorial Hall. This exciting, annual series will feature contemporary artists from multiple music genres including Americana, bluegrass, blues, country, folk, indie rock, jazz, pop and world music.
“The Series offers a winning combination of Grammy Award-winning performers and bands playing in a perfect-jewel of a theater,” says Bill Baumann, Chairman of The Memorial Hall Society. “This high-quality Series will highlight the value of having this important historic building with its beautiful, intimate theater as part of our city’s cultural district around Washington Park.”
Launching in 2017, the Winter-Spring season includes: Grammy-winner, singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash with John Leventhal (Feb. 10), Pink Martini, featuring lead singer, China Forbes (March 9), critically acclaimed songwriter and guitarist Richard Thompson (April 7), and Grammy Award-nominated, singer-songwriter-musician, Sarah Jarosz (June 9).
“Two more concerts will be presented next fall, and our plan is to grow the Longworth-Anderson Series in future years,” said Jim Fitzgerald, chair of the Society’s Program Committee. “We’re hopeful the Series will become a unique, important part of Cincinnati’s entertainment calendar.”
The Longworth-Anderson Series will provide an entire evening of entertainment including pre- and post-concert receptions. Honoring members of the “Friends of Memorial Hall” support group and co-chaired by well-known members of the community, the receptions will feature lite-bites, dessert and beer and wine tastings from popular Cincinnati restaurants, craft beer brewers and wine distributors.
Funding to assist in the establishment of the Longworth-Anderson Series was provided by The Annie W. and Elizabeth M. Anderson Foundation. The Anderson sisters, for whom the Series is named, are great-great granddaughters of Nicholas Longworth and Lt. Colonel Richard Clough Anderson, two important leaders of Cincinnati’s early development. Additional financial support is being provided by the “Founders of the Longworth-Anderson Series”, a special group of supporters interested in music and the arts helping establishing this Series. The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation and the Annie W. and Elizabeth M. Anderson Foundation are providing matching gifts for Founders memberships.
