Arkells Join Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls at Bogart’s

The Arkells have proven there’s still a place for passionate, no-bullshit rock ‘n’ soul in the mainstream. Having won four Juno Awards and a gold record, also last year, they were the most-played band on Canadian alt-rock radio. No small feats.

The Arkells are touring in support of their recent release, Morning Report. They are playing with Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls, Murder By Death, and Will Varley at Bogart’s on Saturday, January 21st.  The album was produced by Joe Chiccarelli (The Strokes, My Morning Jacket), Tony Hoffer (Beck, M83), Brian West (Sia, AWOLNATION), and Gus van Go (The Stills, Wintersleep). The record showcases the intuitive interaction between frontman Max Kerman and Mike DeAngelis’ intertwining guitars, Nick Dika’s urgent basslines, Anthony Carone’s dulcet keys, and Tim Oxford’s lockstep drumming. This is their fourth studio album.

“I don’t think we’ve ever toured with such kindred spirits,” says Arkells front man Max Kerman with regards to the pairing. “They embody everything I love about rock’n'roll, and they make us bring our A-game every night. Our biggest shows yet deserve the best lineup, and that’s what we’ve got here.” After a string of dates together, Turner recently tweeted, “I’m totally mainlining Arkells new record. It’s so FUCKING GOOD.”

Frank Turner is the type of musician that will do this until his body breaks beyond repair. I suspect he would feel lost if his songs ever dried up inside or could never hold a guitar in his hand. The day he obliged my ramblings with answers, he had a show. After that show, he was not satisfied and...
