Premiere of Next To Me by Mos Emvy

Mos Emvy just released his newest single, “Next To Me.” Check out the premiere of the song and get to know Mos Emvy!

Give us some background on Mos Emvy…
I started making music about six years ago but didn’t have a clear direction of what I wanted to do with it. I’ve always been interested in electronic music and hip-hop but at the time I was making music with more of a hip-hop feel and it didn’t have that electronic element in it. It wasn’t until a couple years later that I started wanting to experiment more and I wasn’t afraid to try to make my music sound different. I was listening to chill wave and industrial music while also listening to a lot of the rap that was coming out. I started finding more direction in my music the more I began to experiment with it. It wasn’t until I tried rapping in a harmonic style over a laid back beat that I found “my sound”. I’m continuing to experiment with my music and push the boundaries but I have a clear direction of who “Mos Emvy” is now and not to stray too far off  and make something that I feel doesn’t represent me.

Tell us about your latest single, “Next To Me”
My latest single is about having someone that can stand by your side no matter what comes your way. I value loyalty in hard times and this song was inspired by that. The mentality of the song is an “us VS the world” kind of mentality where you may feel like no one understands where you’re coming from. I think everyone has felt like that and it’s good to know that you’re not alone.

What inspires your writing?
I’m inspired by the things that I see around me or what I’ve dealt with in my personal life. Music is a way for me to release the build up that I have in me when I see so much shit going on in the world today. I feel like I need to communicate with everyone and music is my way to do it. I want to create a story and a message that people can relate to and I love the challenge of trying to write something that will catch someone’s attention.

What is next for Mos Emvy?
Right now I’m focused on trying to create more releases for my current fans but in the near future I want to do more shows in Cincinnati and Columbus. I’m working towards that right now and hopefully within the next few months you’ll be hearing more about me around the city.
