Review: Handsome Ghost

It’s never certain what you’ll get at a Melanie Martinez show. Besides her typically Cry Baby antics, we were given quite a gem. This time around at Bogart’s, the crowd was introduced to English teacher turned full time musician, Handsome Ghost. After finding viral success with his demo “Blood Stutter”, the Boston native joins Melanie Martinez on her Cry Baby tour as main support.

Backed by a small band his voice, very reminiscent of Years and Years, filled the room heavy with emotion yet still silky and smooth. After releasing his EP just a few weeks prior, the crowd was treated to each track. As the night warmed up, so did Handsome Ghost. Song by song, he came into his own. Singing ‘Eyes are Wide’, the energy in the room escalated. While Handsome Ghost could undoubtedly stand on his own, he was the perfect segway into Martinez.

Catch Handsome Ghost on his own headlining tour this Winter in Columbus at Big Room Bar on December 14th. Who knows, we may even see Handsome Ghost back here in Cincinnati. After all, he did mention we’re pretty cool. Check out his newly released EP, The Brilliant Glow below.
