The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra under the direction of Pops Conductor John Morris Russell presents “Hollywood Action & Adventure” on September 16-18 at the Taft Theatre in Downtown Cincinnati. The Orchestra will perform music from action and adventure films such as The Avengers, Mission Impossible, Raiders of the Lost Ark and more. Narrating the concert and sharing stories from the set of such blockbusters is Academy Award-nominated actor, Edward James Olmos, best known for his roles as General Adama in Battlestar Galactica, Lieutenant Castillo in Miami Vice and Detective Gaff in Blade Runner.
With rich orchestral arrangements performed by the Pops, the musical scores from Hollywood blockbusters bring the intense action to the Taft Theatre stage. Music composed by such legends as John Williams, Alan Silvestri, Quincy Jones and Tan Dun show off the virtuosity of the Orchestra.
“The music brings the action to life. The incredible composers who create this magic often create their sound world before the films themselves are even complete. In fact, there are plenty of examples where a director has made edits to a film solely to highlight the emotion of the score,” said Mr. Russell.
Tickets for these concerts (8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 and Saturday, Sept. 17; 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18) start at just $25 ($15 for kids) and are available by calling the Pops Box Office at (513) 381-3300 or visiting www.cincinnatisymphony.org.
