The Life and Music of Larry Goshorn

91.7 WVXU celebrates the life and music of Larry Goshorn with a lively roundtable discussion, plenty of special guests, and a selection of his iconic recordings. The special will air Saturday, July 30 from 8-10pm on 91.7 WVXU, 88.5 WMUB, and streaming online at wvxu.org

Larry Goshorn has been playing music on stages around Cincinnati and across the country for decades. From Tommy’s on Main with the Goshorn Brothers & Guests to large stadiums with Pure Prairie League, Larry’s vocal and guitar work has made him special in the eyes of his many loyal fans and fellow musicians.

Larry was the honored guest for the roundtable recording in WVXU’s studio on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Brian O'Donnell moderated a lively conversation with Larry and friends and collaborators Gary Burbank (musician & radio personality); Billy Hinds (former Pure Prairie League drummer); Katie Laur (local musician, writer and radio host); Marcos Sastre (guitarist and co-producer of the "Shades of Blue" compilations); and Joe Stewart (Sacred Mushroom bandmate and longtime friend.)

Joining the conversation on the phone are Larry Nager (music historian, journalist and musician), Larry's brother Tim Goshorn, and Steve Schmidt, local pianist who played piano for Goshorn Brothers.

Listeners will also hear recorded interviews with drummer Bam Powell; Jim Hunt from Play It Forward Cincinnati; Jeff Siereveld, an alum of the original Ludlow Garage; and founding member of Pure Prairie League, George Powell.

The roundtable covered a myriad of topics about Larry's life and music, touching on his different bands, opening for Janis Joplin at Music Hall, the days performing at Tommy's On Main, performing on Gary Burbank's radio show, and other stories from his long and storied career.

Lee Hay produced this special with technical assistance from Stephen Baum, Cassandra Stepp and Andy Balterman. The special will be archived on wvxu.org.
