LUMENOCITY to Return for Fourth and Final Year

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to announce that its wildly popular concert and community festival, CSO Presents LUMENOCITY, will return for the fourth consecutive and final year, August 5-7, 2016. This year’s program, with its “Re-imagine” theme, will be a fully immersive experience unlike anything audiences have seen before. With Music Hall undergoing a major renovation, CSO Presents LUMENOCITY is evolving into an indoor concert event for 2016 at the historic Taft Theatre that will surround the audience with spectacular visual effects and the sounds of a live orchestra.

Eight performances will be held indoors at the Taft Theatre with the LUMENOCITY Black Party outside the Taft. The Block Party, like last year’s LUMENOCITY Village, will be free and open to the public. The Block Party will include dazzling art installations, live music, crafts, food and drink, and a giant LED screen displaying the performance happening inside the Taft Theatre. Exact hours will be announced at a later date.

There will be access for all via TV, radio, and webcast thanks to CET, WCPO, and 90.9 Classical WGUC.

Performances will take place Friday, August 5, Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7. Ticket prices for all performances range from $12 (partial view) to $20 (full view). The CSO is waiving any service charge fees, so the amount posted is the amount paid. Seats are selected at the point of purchase; seating at the Taft Theatre is not general admission.

Like last year, the CSO was faced with the decision to either not present LUMENOCITY or charge attendees a small fee. The estimated cost to produce LUMENOCITY this year is approximately $1.5 million. All special projects of the Orchestra, including LUMENOCITY, must be fully funded per a policy set by the Orchestra’s Board of Directors. While LUMENOCITY relies primarily on philanthropic support, which continues to be extraordinary and deeply appreciated, this support was not sufficient to fund the event in full this year. Rather than cancel this extraordinary community event, the CSO chose to charge a nominal fee for tickets in order to produce LUMENOCITY. Like last year, the Orchestra will distribute ten percent of the tickets through human service organizations free of charge so the families and individuals these agencies serve throughout the region can attend at no charge.
