On Sunday, October 25th, Urban Artifact will host a Brazilian guitar workshop with Bruno Mangueira! Tickets are $10, you can purchase HERE or at the door.
Bruno Mangueira was born in Vitoria, Brazil in 1978. He has been appearing on the Brazilian and North American scenes as a guitarist, composer and arranger. He started playing the guitar at the age of 4, through his father. At 16 he began his professional career as a big band guitarist. In 1998 he moved to the city of Campinas, where he completed his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in music at the University of Campinas. He has also lived in Sao Paulo, New York City and Cincinnati. He developed part of his doctoral studies as a visiting scholar at the University of Cincinnati.
Bruno has participated in concerts and recordings alongside Brazilian artists including Toninho Horta, Nelson Ayres, Gilson Peranzzetta, Paulo Jobim, Filó Machado, Sizão Machado and Helio Alves. His work with American artists has included Phil DeGreg, Rick DellaRatta, Mandy Gaines, Kim Pensyl and Paul Keller.
Appearing as a soloist with symphony orchestras and big bands in Brazil and the U.S., he has worked as arranger and musical director for various CDs, DVD and concerts. His compositions and arrangements have been performed by orchestras and big bands in several Brazilian and North American cities.
Bruno Mangueira will be accompanied by Phil Degreg, Will Wagner, and Juan Menga. Please help spread the word and tell people to bring their instruments as they will be asking people to sit in and participate as Bruno takes us through several different styles, groove, and tunes.
