School of Rock Mason will present School of Rock Mason: The KISS Show at 4p following with The Allman Brothers Band / Lynyrd Skynyrd concert at The Southgate House Revival on Sun Dec 14 at 7p. Both are in The Sanctuary.
Some of the school's best students will take on the two pillars of southern rock. "This has been a really exciting show to put together," said Brandon Bihn, a guitarist and senior at Lakota East High School. "The guitar lines are rad, and its been so much fun working with the other guitarists in getting down the guitar harmonies." Bihn has excelled at School of Rock Mason, earning a spot on its House Band, a show band made up of some of the school's best students, and a spot on the national School of Rock AllStar Team, which gave him the opportunity to play at Lollapalooza this past summer.
Two other AllStars are in the Allman / Skynyrd show: Caroline Joseph, a bassist and freshman at Lakota West High School, and Derek Johnson, a drummer and freshman at Ross High School. Said Johnson,"We are playing with two drumsets on all the Allman Brothers songs, just like the Allman Brothers Band does. I've learned so much with the challenge of playing with another drummer, how we must coordinate and yet also bring out that there are two drumsets." Recently, the House Band played at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Because most members of the House Band are in the Allman / Skynyrd show, they included "Whipping Post" in their Hall of Fame set.
