Briar Rabbit Hits The Southgate House Revival [Interview]

So fed up with the fiction I stick to with conviction...” The lyrics of Briar Rabbit will sneak up on you, grab your insides and turn you inside out.

Growing up under the watchful eye of his uncle, B.B. King, it seems only fitting that singer/songwriter, Briar Rabbit has grown up to become quite the gentleman, and one that is musically inclined. With romantic melodies and colourfully layered narrative that evoke painfully beautiful imagery through honest lyricism, Briar Rabbit made his triumphant return with forthcoming LP, From Your Bones, released January 21st. To coincide with the album release, Rabbit will be bringing his intimate live show to audiences across the country, with a date right here at The Southgate House Revival on January 29th with Cincinnati's own, Austin Livingood!

Finding his love of music at an early age gave Rabbit a life long mission - make music true to his soul, and share it with everyone he meets. Between performing in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat with Donny Osmond, Second City Day Camps, and theatre throughout high school, Briar Rabbit's formative years unknowingly prepared him to be a charismatic performer. The emotion and experiences that come together in his songs create a truly personal composition that's bound to attract some attention.

We had the chance to sit down with Rabbit before the show on Wednesday!

When did you discover that being a musician was your calling?
Someone asked me "When did you start singing?" and I realized I couldn't remember. It was always just a thing I did. I was actor and dabbled in songwriting until the last day of 8th grade when I played a show in my best friends backyard. That was the moment I felt like a fish in water.

What has been a highlight of your career thus far?
Getting a shout out from Ben Folds on twitter and being followed by him for a week was pretty damn cool. Others are tiny personal moments where fans take me aside and share how my songs hit them.

What can one expect at a Briar Rabbit show?
Sweat? I like to keep it high energy and also talk TO the crowd rather than at them. We will most likely both laugh and feel feelings together.

What is next for Briar Rabbit?
Lots of touring. From Your Bones just came out and so it's been a lot of spreading the word and getting in front of crowds solo. You'll catch me full band on some summer fests too. But don't worry, I'm still writing. My inspiration never stays gone too long!
