May Spotlight: The Seedy Seeds

The Seedy Seeds are a must-see band from Cincinnati, OH made up of Margaret Darling, Joe Frankl and Mike Ingram. I dare you not to dance to their electronic, indie and folksy sound. Using an iPod, accordion, kazoo, guitar, banjo and stellar vocals, they will have your heart from the beginning of the show.

The Seedy Seeds have three CDs under their belt, “Change States”, “Count the Dates”, “Verb Noun”, an EP named "Roll Deep" and are signed to SonaBLAST! Records. The band formed in early 2006 with the aspiration to learn how to play the musical instruments they had owned for years.

I first saw The Seedy Seeds at the Midpoint Music Festival in 2008 and have been hooked ever since. The bar was packed and everyone was dancing like crazy. It was love at first listen. The trio tour the U.S. like crazy and have performed in a slew of music festivals including Boomslang (2010), North by NorthEast (2010 & 2011), CMJ Music Marathon (2009 & 2010), Gratis Fest (2007 & 2009), Midpoint (2007-2011), UMS Festival (2010), Whispering Beard Folk Festival (2010), Forecastle (2008), SXSW (2009-2012), Spotted Cow Festival (2009 & 2010), and Crucial Fun Fest (2009). Best of all, they are scheduled for the Bunbury Music Festival here in Cincinnati this July.

Paste Magazine named The Seedy Seeds the “Best of What’s Next” in June 2010.

NPR selected “Earned Average Dance America” as Song of the Day, pronouncing, “For all the whirling bits and pieces… the band generates a surprisingly cohesive sound… It’s dizzying, perplexing and wonderfully fun.”

Change States ranked #30 in WOXY’s Top 97 Albums of 2007, placing above many established artists such as Tegan and Sara, Of Montreal, Iron and Wine, and Interpol.

If I have not convinced you of what an amazing band this is, can I reiterate there is a KAZOO, BANJO and an ACCORDION! Go check out The Seedy Seeds at the Bunbury Music Festival and get ready to DANCE YOUR ASS OFF!
