March Spotlight: Wussy

In the Cincinnati area, a few bands hold legendary status and one on top of the list is Wussy. If you are even vaguely familiar with the music scene in this town, you have heard of them and have most likely seen them more than a few times.

Wussy will be representing Cincinnati at SXSW in Austin, TX on March 13, 2012. You can come wish them well and rock out at The Redmoor on March 8, 2012.

Wussy is comprised of Chuck Cleaver (guitar, vocals), Lisa Walker (guitar, vocals), Mark Messerly (bass, keyboards) and Joe Klug (drums).  The four piece has released seven albums, splits and EP’s mostly on Cincinnati’s local Shake it label. Wussy has been praised from the likes of Rolling Stone, Spin, Village Voice, The Washington Post and many others. According to Ken Tucker at NPR, “Wussy’s songs do exude a serene confidence in the strength of the music. It conveys the delicacy and fragility of the emotions they want to describe.”

Wussy has the grunge tone we all love. Think Pixies meet Fleetwood Mac meet Velvet Underground. A Wussy show will leave you wanting more. The tense hostility between Cleaver and Walker makes you unclear if they are going to go to blows or start making out right there on stage. A perfect combination.

Do yourself a favor and check them out if you have not already. A diamond right here in our Cincinnati rough.
