And then you write songs to match the stripped down nature of that combo: a sound that leans on the propulsion of an acoustic guitar, colored and adorned by a tapestry of modern synthesizers, electric guitars and the sometimes impeccable delivery of vocal harmonies.
Lauren Bray, Mike Landis and Mike Tittel began singing around the kitchen table writing vocally-driven songs in the winter of 2018-2019. These sessions became the basis for a body of songs and a new appreciation of bourbon, coffee and song ensued. One part campfire guitar singing contest, blended with one part indie innovation, the backbone of the ensemble is an earnest need to creatively express and connect with people, at a time when simplicity and resonance is needed more than ever before. The warmth of an upright bass, manned by Shaun Powell rounds out the combo, which sounds something like the year 2020 with a warm pluck of Sun Records nostalgia and sounding nothing like Elvis. Four people playing real instruments, singing together in rooms all across the country could very well be the way forward. We hope to see you all soon.
