Sneaky Pete Kurlas presents the Soul Pocket Band featuring the three ladies of Soul Pocket, Victoria Lynch, D. Wade, and Yolanda Maiben. Soul Pocket includes a three piece brass section…Buzz Traylor trumpet, Terry Twitty trombone and Garin Webb saxophones, percussionist Albert Lee and a super tight rhythm section Jimi Stewart keyboards, Gary Gorrell guitar, Jerome Day bass, and James Reichwein drums. The band has been performing in the Cincinnati area for over 15 years with a high energy mix of Soul, Motown, R&B, Rock and Funk. They are Cincinnati's favorite party and night club band. Soul Pocket is known for its sparkling performances, lots of dancing, and a touch of musical theater.
Gary Gorrell is a successful former band leader (Willy Ray And The Midnighters). One of the band members is a current successful band leader: D. Wade (Storeyline). Victoria Lynch toured with Chaka Kahn, Jimi Stewart toured with Billy Preston and Tina Marie. Buzz Traylor toured with the funk band SHAG and performed with Rufus Thomas. D. Wade has appeared on Showtime at The Apollo and received high scores in the Cincinnati Idol talent contest from celebrity judges Reverend Run, of Run DMC and Tyrese of The Transformer movies.
Soul Pocket is the concept of Pete Kurlas (aka) Sneaky Pete who pioneered live music in the Main Street entertainment district of Cincinnati in the 1990s with The Sneaky Pete Band. Pete wanted to showcase a band featuring female vocalists and with the help of guitarist David Rhoads Brown (Warsaw Falcons) and guitarist Harvey Freedman (H-Bomb Ferguson) put together the Soul Pocket Band. With three female singers including local Cincinnati TV station news anchor Janette Smith they walloped the local music scene. Their popularity blossomed and the local clubs were packed with fans that included members of Blessed Union Of Souls, The Back Street Boys and 98 Degrees. Many fans desired to hire the band for private functions, wedding receptions, and corporate events so a bunch of bar band players decided to give them what they wanted and wound up with a very busy schedule on Saturday nights at the finest country clubs and hotel ballrooms in the area.
Soul Pocket has traveled to Chicago, Scottsdale Arizona, Vale Colorado, Ft. Lauderdale and many cities in-between for special events. They have performed at many area events and fundraisers including Taste Of Cincinnati, Taste Of Blue Ash, Mercy Hospitals Foundation Fundraisers, Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation Fundraiser, Ronald McDonald House, Riverside Hospitals Foundation Fundraiser (Chicago), Cincinnati Zoo Zoofari 2007, 2009 and 2010 as well as a number of Live At The Levee performances (Newport KY) to list a few.
The Band can be seen at local night clubs including Jeff Ruby's Carlo & Johnny, and The Redmoore in Mt. Lookout. At Taste Of Blue Ash in 2008 the band opened for the celebrated recording artists WAR (Low Rider, Why Can't We Be Friends, Cisco Kid) and the The Commodores in August 2009 at the same event.
