She has performed extensively since 2012 with songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, Clint Thomson as Stone & Snow. They have released five studio albums, Delicate and Wild EP (2023), We Were Made For These Times (2021), Love is a Weapon (2019), Devil That I Know (2016) and These Are The Hills (2014). Stone & Snow tours throughout the Midwest and East Coast.
She also appears on Nick Africano’s album Gossip of Flames (produced by Lera Lynn), singing backing vocals on “Lauren Jean”.
Karen is an advocate for women in music. She regularly writes and speaks about her experience as a woman in an industry where women maintain 20% or less representation and struggle to achieve equal stage time and compensation. In 2018, she released a single of her song, “Break Me Down“, written about her personal experience as part of an underrepresented and underestimated demographic, particularly in the rural Midwest. The song features backing vocals by the women of DãVizion.
In 2023, Karen’s Tiny Desk Contest entry was recognized by NPR as the first entry to that year’s contest. You can read what NPR had to say about her entry on the NPR All Songs Considered Blog.
