MPMF Preview: Wolf Parade

It has been a year noted by comebacks in the music world with acts such as LCD Soundsystem and Frank Ocean to name a few, but there is one very important band that should be noted also. That band would be Wolf Parade. Since 2010 the band has been on hiatus, but after they announced their comeback at the beginning of the year, Wolf Parade has been going of full-force with the release of EP 4, as well as supporting it behind a full tour. This isn’t the first time Wolf Parade has visited the Queen City either. The band has frequented Cincinnati both in 2008 and in 2010 playing shows at the old Southgate House. Frontman Spencer Krug has also performed with his side project, Sunset Rubdown and guitarist Dan Boeckner played behind the Divine Fits in Cincinnati in the years past as well.

Wolf Parade was formed in 2003 in Montreal, Canada. After releasing their first EP in 2004, they gained interest from Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock. Isaac signed them to the indie label giant, Sub Pop to start recording their first album and arguably their magnum opus, Apologies to the Queen Mary. Tracks such as “Same Ghost Every Night” and “I’ll Believe in Anything” make the album one of the most influential Indie Rock albums of the 21st Century so far.  From there they went on to record two more high-caliber albums named Expo 86 and At Mount Zoomer, proving that Wolf Parade had become one of Sub Pop’s flagship bands.

Not much has changed in the way Wolf Parade performs their music since the band was formed. Their stage-presence has no strobing lights, no gimmicks, and no distractions. Wolf Parade plays with a sort of energy and simplicity that you can’t really find anywhere else. It feels like you’re watching a band playing one of their first shows. Nothing is added and nothing is missing; just a very talented band playing some incredible indie rock music.

Wolf Parade is playing MPMF on Saturday, September 24th!
