From the Wall to the Coffee Table: Show Posters

It’s a fact that if you are a fan of music, art, and design in Cincinnati, you are also a fan of Powerhouse Factories. You may even have a few of their posters in your own home (or like myself – too many to count). Powerhouse Factories is a rock poster shop and design studio established in 2004 and founded by Pat Jones and Ben Nunery.

Powerhouse Factories founders Jones and Nunery have written a beautiful book Show Posters, The Art and Practice of Making Gig Posters. The book takes readers beyond album covers to teach them all about the art that drives today's biggest music shows and festivals.

The posters of Powerhouse Factories have helped to launch shows to the next level. Whether it be national bands such as Passion Pit, The Black Keys, The Flaming Lips or locals Walk The Moon, Foxy Shazam, and The Greenhornes. The designs on the posters help create a feeling. A feeling that you want to experience at that show. A feeling that you will take home with you and carry in your memory after the show is over.

Show Posters is a book about more than just how to create rock posters and work with bands and promoters. Yes, it has all of that, but what this book is to me is a book of art. A book of memories. It’s a period of time that can stand still while hanging on your wall.

On Saturday, April 30th at 5p, the launch of Show Posters will be hosted by MOTR Pub. Fitting location as one entire wall at MOTR is covered in framed Powerhouse Factories rock posters. The authors will be available to autograph your book. They will also be selling their variant edition book with a variant cover design! This limited edition cover will be hand screen printed and signed by the authors. The variant edition book is limited to 50 copies, so don’t be late!
