Young Heirlooms & Kelley McRae opening for Nikki Lane

Friday, February 20, 2015 – The Woodward Theater, Cincinnati, Ohio

Just as a triple play in baseball is a rare occurrence, such is the Woodward Theater’s line up on Friday!  Under the experienced eye of Cincinnati music scene magician Dan McCabe, the Woodward Theater presents Nashville country music singer-songwriter Nikki Lane, with harmonious Cincinnati natives Young Heirlooms and Americana traveling artist Kelley McCrae.  Dan has pulled together a trio of sounds for a unique and rare musical experience not to be missed.

Nikki Lane turns the genre of singer songwriter stereotype on its ears.  Friday she will surely entertain with songs that crucify ex-boyfriends, celebrate one-night stands and proclaim “It’s always the right time to do the wrong thing.”  Lane comes across like a modern-era Wanda Jackson, albeit with more oats to sow.  Her sophomore album All or Nothin rings with true life tones, “My songs always paint a pretty clear picture of what’s been going on in my life, this is one moody record.  There’s lots of talk of misbehaving and moving on.”  Look for high style, cooing-yet-brutal vocals and an aching, mournful guitar.

Young Heirlooms have a sound akin to the inviting melodies of Fleet Foxes, the instrumental chemistry of Nickel Creek, the individualized expression of The Civil Wars and the vocal harmonies of a Brian Wilson record.  Folk-pop group Young Heirlooms out of Cincinnati, Ohio, have an intriguing and enveloping sound that strikes a chord with listeners far and wide.  With an expanded 6 piece orchestration, tempestuous three part harmonies, passionate lyrics and heart wrenching instrumentation, Young Heirlooms are becoming Cincinnati’s  “go to” heavy hitter band by creating meaningful and memorable experiences for their listeners.

Kelley McRae dropped her Brooklyn apartment and spent the entire year touring America.  She traveled coast to coast with her husband and guitarist, Matt Castelein, playing over 200 shows and putting 35,000 miles on their VW camper van. Along the way, she encountered the people and places that inspired the songs on her third album, Brighter than the Blues. This new album details a life on the road, from a glorious meal in New Orleans to a drive through the yellow hills of California, but musically, the album’s heartfelt Americana draws from McRae’s Mississippi roots and carry a new sense of hope and light.
