Rick VanMatre Quintet

Rick VanMatre is one of Cincinnati’s most well known musicians. His artistry spans a wide array of styles and he has presented concerts, jazz club performances, and symphonic jazz concerto solos throughout the US, Europe, Israel, Brazil, China and South Korea. Here in town, you are probably familiar with his performances at jazz clubs, with the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras, and on CCM concerts. For 30 years he was the Director of UC’s College-Conservatory of Music Jazz Studies Department, where he conducted and performed on over 250 concerts.

Pianist Jim Connerley has been an active member of the Cincinnati and surrounding tri-state jazz community since 1990. He graduated, magna cum laude, with a master’s degree from the Indiana University School of Music. He has performed with such internationally known jazz artists as Barry Ries, Don Braden, Antonio Hart, David "Fathead" Newman, Rich Perry and Delfeayo Marsalis. Since moving to the Cincinnati area he has been a member of some of its finest jazz groups including the Pat Harbison Quintet, the Cohesion Jazz Ensemble the salsa band, Tropicoso and the Brent Gallaher Quartet. Currently he is a member of the Art Gore Quartet, the John Zappa trio and the Gary Gorrell Quartet. He also works regularly with vocalist Adia Dobbins.

Joining Rick and Jim will be Peter Gemus on bass, and Tony Franklin on drums.
