Brian Newman Quintet

with:
  • Dan Karlsberg & The 'Nati 6

Trumpeter and vocalist Brian Newman will bring his unique blend of contemporary and traditional Jazz and Swing to Cincinnati, courtesy of the Xavier University Music Series, on Sunday, January 24. Newman, who is Lady Gaga's Jazz bandleader, collaborated with the pop superstar and the legendary Tony Bennett on their Grammy-winning album "Cheek to Cheek" and will soon release his own, debut album, produced by “Cheek to Cheek” producer Dae Bennett.

A mainstay in some of New York's finest Jazz clubs, Newman traces his musical roots to his hometown of Cleveland as well as to Cincinnati, where he studied at the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), along with other members of the Brian Newman Quintet, including pianist/arranger Alex Smith and saxophonist Steve Kortyka. Drummer Paul Francis also has musical ties to Cincinnati, having performed with the Blue Wisp Big Band.

Opening for the Brian Newman Quintet will be Jazz pianist/composer Dan Karlsberg & The 'Nati 6, whose recent, self-titled album is nominated for a Cincinnati Entertainment Award in both Jazz and Album of the Year categories, and which CityBeat called “brilliant… hypnotically adventurous."
