Royal Holland is a singer-songwriter currently residing in Cincinnati, playing dreamy, smooth synth-folk songs about love and loss since 2014. He is desperate to create elaborate, visceral, truthful musical stories in every new song. He stands upon the shoulders of his heroes of the art form; Leonard Cohen, Elliot Smith, Jeff Mangum, Neil Young, Suzanne Vega and Mac McCaughin among many others, and draws inspiration from the terribly beautiful and wonderfully horrible events of daily mundane life. He wants us all to feel beautiful and free.
The music you’ll hear from Royal Holland is the embodiment of these hopes. You’ll hear layers of electronic sounds, booming live drums mingled with thumping drum machine rhythms and eerie string arrangements all topped off with some good old-fashioned acoustic guitar and a voice that has been compared to The Civil Wars, Roy Orbison and Thom Yorke.
He has shared the stage with the the likes of Smoking Popes, Say Hi, Electropop, Natlie Portman's Shaved Head, We Are Hex, and Stardeath & White Dwarves and has been described in the press as "one of the best rock lyricists in town," (Cincinnati CityBeat) and having "a manifest talent for crafting memorable riffs" (Tiny Mix Tapes).
He is releasing an initial 4 song E.P. titled "Volume One - The Maze" recorded and produced with Grammy Winning producer Brian Olive (Soledad Brothers, Ex Greenhornes) who has worked with everyone from Dr. John to Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys. Holland will be hitting the road for the months of August through November to get this E.P. in the hands of everyone he meets. Although this project has only begun, he’s already cut his first Nashville demo on Music Row and logged over 1000 touring miles. He will be releasing two more E.P.s through early 2015, releasing the 3 E.P.s collectively on vinyl and then recording his debut full-length L.P., a concept album about the tyranny of entropy and inevitability.
