Tin Pilgrim released their debut album "A Westward Train" in August of 2021. The concept of this "garage western" was to create a collage of young America's westward expansion with each song representing both the advancement of the decades and of the different groups that went west. From wagons heading east of the Appalachians in the early 1800s, Riverboats going down the Ohio in the 1830s, to crossing the plains and eventually the railroads stretching to the Pacific in the 1860s. The concept of this "garage western" was to create a collage of young America's westward expansion with each song representing both the advancement of the decades and of the different groups that went west. From wagons heading east of the Appalachians in the early 1800s, Riverboats going down the Ohio in the 1830s, to crossing the plains and eventually the railroads stretching to the Pacific in the 1860s. At first the railroad nurtured the old west, but by bringing population growth and civilization it also lead to the end of the frontier.
Although the album is instrumental and largely guitar driven, it also includes found audio and ambient sounds to emphasize the themes. At just over 30 minutes, it provides a quick meditation on one of America's lasting legacies: that of Westward Expansion.
