Having parents in the Medical field, you can bet that the members of Junior Doctor were under quite a bit of pressure to follow in their parents footsteps. But Med School is not for everyone and, despite their parents wishes, the boys decided to trade in their scalpels and stethoscopes for guitars and drums, and in honor of their parents dream of them becoming Doctors, they decided to call themselves Junior Doctor.
Junior Doctor has captivated Cocoa Beach crowds for years with their roaring guitar lines, pounding rhythmic sequences and energetic live shows. The Space Coast's flagship power-pop quartet consisting of Mark Hartman (lead singer and rhythm guitars), Jarrod Kearney (drums), Richard Peidro (bass), & Terrence Donnelly (guitar) has gained state-wide momentum: the "What I Do" music video has had over 50,000 views on YouTube, 101.1 WJRR in Orlando has played the "What I Do" single in rotation on its native noise program, and the band has had over one million plays on their MySpace page.
Two years following "Take the Pain" - the EP that launched their career - Junior Doctor is back with their first full-length CD, "Clumsy Words and Bad Pickup Lines" due out in January of 2011.
The band headed back into the studio in December of 2009 with Matt Goldman (Cartel, Underoath, Anberlin), followed those sessions with a significant production and mixing contribution by Executive Producers, Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount (All Time Low, Mayday Parade, Go Radio), and rounded out the album in September 2010 with contributions by Ethan Mentzer (The Click Five) and Todd Wright (Getaway Car). The result of a 9-month collaboration with a variety of producers is a CD that stays true to the punk/rock roots that made Junior Doctor popular with an added kick of catchy hooks and melodies.
The sessions with Odom and Mount produced the first single, "Uh Oh" - a pop-driven song about a guy who can't seem to come up with the right words - which has an infectious melody that you can't help but sing even hours after you've stopped listening.
Of the six songs produced by Goldman, the lead song "Impressive" and "Perfect Girl" capture the high-energy, punk pop sound that makes Junior Doctor so much fun to watch.
The songs produced by Metzner and Wright complete the album and include the softer yet beautiful, "Beautiful and Blind". With its orchestral elements, it shows an interesting and more vulnerable side of Junior Doctor.
Junior Doctor's latest release is greeted with anticipation from industry insiders, fans and long-time Junior Doctor 'Patients'. The growth in songwriting and musicianship is impressive and definitely won't leave people disappointed. The doctor is in and heart surgery never sounded so good.
