Butler talked about wanting to join a band, so later that night Hunt sent her a track he’d been working on; the singer added lyrics and the song, “Gold,” was finished by the end of the week. (The band originally wanted to call the group Gold, but went with the more Google-able GGOOLLDD instead, which should make you love them even more.) “Gold” is included on the 2014 EP $Tandard$, a great introduction to the band’s approach, which is guided by sonic beds of driving electronic burbles, colorful synth riffs, pulsating rhythms and Butler’s alluring vocals. GGOOLLDD has been attracting some industry attention; one listen to its latest radiant, hyper-catchy single, “Boyz,” and you’ll understand why.
