SCHOOL OF ROCK MASON PERFORMS:
4PM KISS
7PM THE ALLMAN BROTHERS-LYNYRD SKYNYRD
School of Rock Mason opened in April 2012 and has been grooming the Cincinnati-area’s next generation of rockers ever since. The school is performance-based, putting on a season of rock shows every four months. In addition, it has performed on Fountain Square, at the MidPoint Musical Festival, and at Summerfest in Milwaukee, among many other non-seasonal show gigs. The school is part of an international network of more than 130 Schools of Rock, and several students from the school have played at Lollapalooza as members of the School of Rock National AllStars.
While the performers in each show generally range in age from 12 to 18, the quality of their music making is surprisingly strong. Mike Breen of CityBeat described his reaction to his first School of Rock performance this way: “I seriously got choked up watching the School of Rock Mason band at MidPoint. Such talented, passionate kids.”
School of Rock will be putting on a double header for the evening. First up at 4 P.M. will be a KISS show – complete with costumes, makeup, and some other surprises. That will be followed by a 7 P.M. show featuring the music of the two pillars of Southern Rock: The Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd as performed by some of the school’s most advanced students. A ticket grants admission to both shows.
