August 2014 marked the ten year anniversary for Phratry Records, and to celebrate, the label is hosting two nights of music featuring many regional bands from the Phratry roster and several special guests.
Since 2004, Phratry Records (Cincinnati, Ohio) has built a catalog of nearly 50 releases and a roster of touring bands from the United States, Canada and Europe. Uninterested in being a genre-specific record label, Phratry boasts a diverse catalog -- everything from rock, punk, metal and noise to folk, indie-rock and contemporary classical -- by artists who share decidedly non-mainstream ethos.
Phratry Records is an underground record label focused on art and community. It continues in the tradition of DIY, independent record labels and owes a considerable debt to imprints such as SST, Touch & Go, Dischord, Amphetamine Reptile and more.
Ampline (Cincinnati, OH). For fans of 1980s-era Powell Peralta skate-rock, Mission Of Burma, Agent Orange.
ed fROMOHIO (Pittsburgh, PA). Former guitar player / vocalists from SST Records' fIREHOSE. Ed joined the Phratry roster in 2012 with his newest band FOOD.
Mala In Se (Cincinnati, OH). A deconstruction of post-punk/thrash/avant-garde/nosie/math-rock/free-jazz.
Smoke Signals (Cincinnati, OH). Prog-rock played by a Midwestern hardcore band.
Aperiodic (NYC / Chicago / Dayton). Aperiodic can "best" be described as a combination of Xenakis, Cecil Taylor, MEV, and the Jesus Lizard disfigured beyond recognition
Knife the Symphony (Cincinnati, OH). Knife The Symphony has consistently released energetic, abrasive, rhythmic-work garnering comparisons to Hüsker Dü, Drive Like Jehu, Jawbox, and Unwound. Bring your earplugs.
State Song (Cincinnati, OH) For fans of 1990’s era Indie/Alt-Rock; 1970’s Album Oriented Rock
Swear Jar (Cincinnati, OH). Abrasive, bombastic punk-rock for fans of Shellac, NoMeansNo, Minutemen.
Heevahava (Roanoke, VA). Special guests Heevahava for fans of Mule, The Cows and Amphetamine Reptile Records releases.
East Arcadia (Cincinnati, OH). Reunion show featuring members of Phratry Records' Arms Exploding.
The Scrubs (Cincinnati, OH). Pop-punk for fans of The Mr. T Experience, Jawbreaker, early Lookout Records releases.
