Here's the story of Rum Rebellion: We began in 2005 as a group of friends who got together to play Irish traditionals and sea shanties for fun. We started playing at Portland Saturday Market and busking outside of bigger shows, mostly so we could get enough money to get into the show and buy some beer. After a bit we decided to start playing punk shows so we added bass and drums. A few big shows with Broken Bones, The Tossers, and the Real McKenzies helped quickly establish us in the Portland music scene. The release of "Cruisin' for a Boozin'" in November 2006 led to our first tour shortly thereafter. Since then we've toured the US three times and the West Coast over a dozen times. We released a split CD in 2008 on Rodent Popsicle with our comrades Hammered Grunts called "Pick Yer Poison", and recently released a full-length on Crash Assailant entitled "Blackwater".
Rum Rebellion is currently writing songs for another full-length album to be released in 2013. Touring plans include US and European dates following the new release. In addition, we're on the hunt for another musician to help bring out the traditional aspects of our songwriting. Although the band's instrumentation has changed throughout our seven year history, we've always kept the orignal vision of a band of friends playing punk tunes on traditional instruments as a major component in our sound. We'd like to thank all the kids we've met all over the country who have helped us out with a show, a meal, a roof over our heads, or simply helped us keep the good times rolling. Cheers to you - we'll see you soon!
