The Detroit Cobras

with:
  • Lydia Loveless

Combining girl-group hooks and harmonies with high-octane, Motor City garage rock, The Detroit Cobras conjure the 1960s era of Top 40 AM radio and vinyl 45s.  The Detroit Cobras return to Cincinnati performing in The Ballroom at the Taft Theatre on April 17th!

Crawling out from the weed-choked lots of the once proud town, The Detroit Cobras whip out ass-shaking anthems to good times, wild times, and the high and lows of L-U-V-E; you best believe it and you best not mess with it.  Singer Rachel Nagy and guitarist Mary Ramirez are the bad girls by the exit doors at the school dance, all leather and heels, sneaking smokes and passing the flask.

The Detroit Cobras signed with Sympathy for the Record Industry and released their first full-length album, Mink Rat or Rabbit, in 1998. After a three-year gap, they released a second album, Life, Love and Leaving Their retro-garage rock formula proved popular in the UK and prompted the London-based Rough Trade Records to sign the band. They released an EP, Seven Easy Pieces, in 2003 and their third full-length album, Baby, in 2005. Baby broke with the Cobras' tradition in that it included one original song, "Hot Dog (Watch Me Eat)". Baby was picked up for release in the US by Bloodshot (who added the songs from Seven Easy Pieces. In April of 2007, Bloodshot released the band's fourth full-length, Tied and True.

They have no time for dewy-eyed love songs or girl group decorum; theyll take care of business themselves with a bat of the eye or an elbow to the kidney.  Rachels warm as the bourbon under the seat of your car voice can boom to the back pews (Did we say "pews?" We meant "barstools") and Marys riffs let you know that love and good times can be found in the tilt of a hip or at the end of a fist.
