Bunbury Act Seeks Midwest Pride, Not Fame

Jared Mahone will play Bunbury Music Festival on Sunday, June 5th on the Yeatman’s Cove Stage at 3p! An Ohio native with musical influences spanning Cincinnati’s soul and funk scene, Mahone’s presence at Sawyer Point Park is nothing but natural. The rising independent act’s notoriety is rooted in heartfelt songwriting, high quality musicianship and steadfast commitment to uncompromised creativity.

“Growing up with Midwest culture and playing music in Ohio–it’s a special experience,” said the Columbus-based singer-songwriter. “This place gives birth to some of the realest, most grounded art. There’s no foreseeable pipeline from music to money; people write for the sake of the song, not for the sake of how much wealth it might create.”

Mahone’s devotion to authenticity and aptitude for independent artistry are difficult features to find in the modern music industry. In a system simultaneously democratized, deteriorated and congested by technology, simplicity rarely discovers success. Nevertheless, Mahone’s resilience has seen him a sustainable career.

Named Verizon’s Indie Icon in 2013 and Best Male Artist in the International Independent Acoustic Music Awards in 2014, Mahone’s ability to organically earn accolades continuously impresses his hometown supporters. He performed at ABC’s Katie Couric Show in New York City in recent years, proving the attention of network television accessible.

At Bunbury Music Festival, Mahone will perform crowd favorites from his songwriting experiment album, Mixtape, and more.

“Bunbury’s an awesome celebration of music and culture, right here in Ohio,” said Mahone. “It embodies the Midwestern love for music that keeps growing and growing.”
